Properties and advantages of metal fence sheets
The appearance on the market of corrugated board contributed to the widespread use of this material in various areas of construction. It is successfully used for fencing the territory of private, public and industrial use. The material has a number of unique properties that make it possible to give preference to the device of fences made of profiled sheet:
- high strength and durability - thanks to the stiffening ribs, the profiled wall sheet has strength with low weight. The strength of the panels is influenced by the thickness of the sheet, the shape and height of the stiffeners. The polymer composition of the coating prevents corrosion and provides the material with a long service life, which can be 40-50 years;
- resistance to wind load - depending on the strength of the wind prevailing in your area, you can choose the required sheet thickness that can withstand such a load;
- wide range of colors - the profiled sheet is available in various colors, which can be selected according to the RAL scale (color standard), focusing on individual preferences and maintaining the architectural composition;
- versatility - the material can be used not only for fencing, but also for the construction of small outbuildings and sheds;
- sufficient noise insulation - the fence is able to detain street noise and the hum of passing cars;
- simplicity and ease of installation - corrugated board is a light material, it can be installed even by one person, fastening is carried out using special self-tapping screws with a polymer coating;
- ease of maintenance - the profiled sheet is well washed in the usual way, does not require periodic repairs.If accidental damage forms during the installation process, they can be quickly eliminated by treating the scratches with paint of the appropriate color from a spray can;
- attractive price - metal profile sheets for fences have an acceptable cost in comparison with materials such as traditional metal, brick or stone.
Useful advice! When choosing a corrugated board for a fence, give preference to a wall sheet that has a lighter weight and a variety of profile shapes. Such material has a lower cost than a roofing analogue and as a fence it may well cope with wind load.
Wall corrugated board used for fences, is characterized by a profile shape with a small trapezoid height - 8-25 mm and is distinguished by the simplicity and grace of the coating. It can be used as an independent enclosing structure and as a background, for example, for wrought iron fence.
Professional sheet for a fence: sizes, prices of sheets
In order to correctly calculate the required amount of material when installing a fence from a profiled sheet with your own hands, as well as correctly plan the step between the support posts, you need to have an idea of its basic dimensions and markings.
Dimensions of a professional sheet for fences
Sheets of corrugated board, taking into account the configuration and height of the profile, are classified into separate groups:
- marking C - profiled wall sheet used for the construction of walls, partitions and enclosing structures, as well as for decorative surface cladding and wall insulation;
- marking H - bearing profiled sheet used for the construction or strengthening of bearing structures;
- NS marking is a universal metal profile that has found application in roofing, wall and ceiling decoration. Differs in a significant sheet height with a small thickness and wave height.
The main difference between the wall profile and the bearing one is the height of the trapezium and the presence of additional stiffeners. This difference is explained by the use of grade H corrugated board in structures where the load on the material is much higher.
The length of the sheets varies depending on the manufacturer of the metal profile and ranges from 0.4 to 12 m, however, the height of 2 m is considered standard. Below are the parameters of the most used grades of corrugated board.

Useful advice! Installation of profiled sheets is carried out with an overlap, while it is necessary that the larger edge of the rib completely covers the edge with the smaller rib.
Profiled sheets for fences: price per sheet
The cost of a profiled sheet depends on several factors: metal thickness, profile shape and type of protective polymer coating. As the thickness of the metal increases, its cost increases. For example, the price of a corrugated board with a thickness of 0.7 mm will be about a third higher than a similar sheet of 0.4 mm.
A galvanized professional sheet is considered quite budgetary. The zinc coating makes the material resistant to corrosion in comparison with conventional sheets. In turn, corrugated board with a polymer coating has a higher degree of protection, but its price is 30-35% higher than that of galvanized one.

As for the shape of the profile, the higher it is, the larger the stiffener and the higher the bearing capacity of the sheet. Accordingly, the cost of such material will be higher. The number in the marking of the metal profile indicates the wave height in mm. For the device of a fence from a profiled sheet with their own hands, they mainly use a wall profile, which is considered the most economical, less often roofing profiled sheeting is used.

Fences from a professional sheet. Photo of the design of modern fences
Considering the huge choice of colors, the profiled sheet for the fence can be selected in any shade you like. The most commonly used colors for fences brown (chocolate), green (moss green), cherry (red wine), the fences of these colors look voluminous and aesthetically pleasing. Profiled sheets made with a texture imitating wood or granite are very popular.
A separate group is fences made of corrugated board, which are combined with wood, stone, brick or metal. The ability of the metal profile to combine gives unlimited opportunities for the manifestation of design imagination. Often in fences use a combination of several types of material at once, for example, brick, forged elements and profiled sheet.
The classic version includes a fencing made of corrugated board with pillars of natural stone or brick, depending on the architectural development of the personal plot. Thanks to the construction of a concrete base, the ground part of which is lined with an appropriate material, such fence has a majestic appearance. It should be noted that a foundation is required for fence with brick pillars. For example, you can see a photo of fences made of profiled sheet with brick posts.
To make a brick or stone structure look appropriate, it is important to choose the right color for the corrugated board. For example, a profiled sheet of an oxide-red color group or a shade of terracotta is perfectly combined with fired brick. If the posts and the parapet are faced with gray natural stone, the composition can be supplemented with a sheet of light aluminum color or corrugated board with a dark gray coating.
Quite interesting are the solutions for fencing, where the corrugated board is enclosed in a metal frame or framed with a special strip along the upper edge. The profiled sheet covered with such a strip is more reliably protected from corrosion. The presence of edged sections in the fence makes the structures of gates and wickets almost invisible. Such fences have a neat finished look.
Not so long ago, corrugated board for fences with a curly top edge appeared on the market. The pattern of the sections of these fences has a wave or peak shape. The design of such a fence is as close as possible to the traditional version of wooden fences.It should be noted that the integrity of the corrugated sheet in such a fence is not violated.
Fences made of metal profiles, decorated with metal carved or forged elements, look elegant. The lace patterns of metal overlays can decorate not only the fence sections, but also gate with wicket... The selected beautiful color of the background corrugated board will favorably emphasize the forged compositions and make the fence unique, keeping the shape of the structure.
Today, you can purchase ready-made forged ornaments at construction outlets. Having chosen a drawing to your taste, you can independently weld these elements to the metal frame of the fence section from the profiled sheet. How to make a fence from professional sheets
To find out how to build a fence from corrugated sheets with your own hands, you need to study the main characteristics and properties of corrugated board, familiarize yourself with examples of installation of enclosing structures. There are numerous stories on the Internet about how to build a fence from professional sheets with your own hands. The video provides comprehensive information on the stages of work.
Do-it-yourself fence from a professional sheet. We prepare material and place for installation
Before proceeding with the construction of the fence, it is necessary to make the correct calculation of the required material, taking into account the main parameters of the fence: the length, height and design of the fence as a whole. When calculating the required amount of corrugated board, the method of fastening them with an overlap is taken into account, the size of which ranges from 3 to 10 cm.
The perimeter of the site is cleared of vegetation, debris and leveled. Wooden stakes are driven into the corners of the site, between which the cord is fixed. Places of installation of gates and wickets are marked, the step between the support posts is determined. Traditionally, it ranges from 2-2.5 m to 3 m. In these places, intermediate pegs are driven in.
Materials required:
- profiled sheet - usually for the construction of fences, sheets of corrugated board of grades C08 - C21 are used. Such foxes are used when the planned fence will have a height of up to 2-2.5 m. If the future fence is supposed to be higher than 3 m, then it is recommended to use material marked C20, C21. Experts advise to give preference to a profiled sheet with a polymer coating;
- metal supports - for pillars, a hollow profile pipe of square (rectangular) cross-section 60 × 60 mm, 60 × 40 mm is used. The wall thickness is chosen at least 2 mm. A pipe for pillars that will be supported goal, used with a large section of 80 × 80 mm;
- horizontal guides - for transverse logs, to which the profiled sheet will subsequently be attached, a profile pipe of a smaller section is used than for vertical supports, 20 × 20 mm or 20 × 40 mm with walls of 2-2.5 mm are suitable. For a fence height of 2-2.5 m, the logs are fixed in two rows at a distance of 1.5 m;
- self-tapping screws - for fixing the sheets, roofing screws with sealing rubber washers are used, it is advisable to use galvanized fasteners. The step of self-tapping screws is taken based on 1 running meter of material - 12-14 attachment points.
Useful advice! Sheets of corrugated board to the frame should be fastened with self-tapping screws with thermal washers, screwing in the place where the lower wave of the profile passes.
Do-it-yourself fence post installation methods
When installing supports, you can use two types of base: a tape base, under which a trench is arranged around the entire perimeter, or a separate (local) base for each support.To find out to what depth to bury the fence post, you need to have an idea of the type of soil on the site. In the case of clayey soils, make a hole of 0.9 m, if the soil is loose - 1.2 m.
How to install fence posts correctly? Before installing the supports at the corners of the perimeter, the bottom of the pits is covered with roofing material. When all the pillars are installed along their upper edge, they pull the construction cord, thus checking the correctness of their installation in height. Intermediate supports are placed between the corner posts, keeping the distance between the fence posts at 2.5 m.
After installing the supports in the pits, they are covered with chipped bricks, stones, tamped well, poured with water and concreted. Then it is kept for two weeks until full set. While the solution has not yet frozen, check the verticality of the installation of each pillar and, if necessary, align the position of the racks.
When installing a fence from a profiled sheet with their own hands, many people prefer to use screw posts for the fence. The upper part of such supports is a square pipe, and the lower one is made in the form of a screw pile. Thus, it is easy to install this support by screwing in until the round part enters the ground. And with the square top of the pipe it is convenient to dock any elements of the fence.
If a fence with brick pillars is planned, after the supports are installed and concreted, they are covered with bricks. It should be borne in mind that if a strip base was not arranged, then a separate foundation must be made for each brick pillar.
Installation of horizontal guides and fastening of corrugated board
The fastening of the lag guides to the posts is carried out using a welding joint. The number of horizontal guides depends on the height of the fence, and the distance between adjacent cross-members is 1.5 m. After all the logs are welded, it is necessary to carefully clean the joints and paint the finished metal frame.
The assembly of gates and entrance wickets begins with the manufacture of frames, the structures of which are reinforced with diagonal lintels. To give the structure stability, the posts of the wicket and gates are interconnected by a cross beam. Finished frames of gates and wickets are fixed on the supporting posts and sheathed with profiled sheet.
Fastening sheets of corrugated board is carried out using self-tapping screws of the appropriate color. The sheets are overlapped, covering each subsequent sheet with one wave of the next. Plating starts from the gate in both directions. The recommended pitch between self-tapping screws is two profile waves.
Useful advice! Pre-drilling holes in metal guides in all places where self-tapping screws will be will help save installation time and efficiently use materials.
Using the advice of professionals and video materials on installing corrugated fences, you can independently mount a beautiful and durable fence structure on your personal plot.
