In this regard, it seems necessary to tell about this technology in more detail for those who know what decorative plaster mixtures are and are going to revet the walls with them.

How to prepare decorative plaster with your own hands, video and description of the process
Everyone wants to decorate the walls of their home with textured plaster, which is so popular today. Cost is often an obstacle. For this reason, people are always trying to find a way to make their own mixtures. It is noteworthy that today we managed to try out several very successful recipes that may well compete with store-bought ones. Moreover, there are recipes for both interior decoration and work outside buildings.
We need completely ordinary components to prepare a composition for decorative plaster with our own hands. The videos offered on the web indicate a large number of ingredients, but we will limit ourselves to the following:
- Cement.
- Gypsum.
- Lime.
- Glass.
- Putty.
- Silicone.
- Acrylic.
- Clay.
To add volume and different texture to the mineral compositions, you need to add: sand, particles of various minerals, stone chips, shell rock and other solid elements. Synthetic fillers are mixed into polymer compositions, giving the coating a pattern similar to leather or suede, or conveying the image of wood or silk. By adding stone chips to them, you can get a surface similar to natural rock.
The viscosity and elasticity of the mixture is given by plasticizers, the most accessible of which is the usual PVA glue, known and readily available to everyone. All the resulting plaster mixes have a white or gray tint, therefore, dyes and pigments are used to give them color, combined with one or another base.
Useful advice! There is no point in adding dye to mineral plastering compounds. You can simply paint on top with any paint... This will allow you to more accurately select the shade.
All of these components are sold in building materials stores or are located in natural conditions, from where they only need to be taken and properly prepared. All material must be well dried and sieved. Lime and clay need to be sieved in a viscous state before use. Solid particles should not exceed 3 mm in size.

Recipes for self-production of decorative plaster mixes
Recipe 1... In order to make the simplest decorative plaster with your own hands, you do not need a video. You just need to take the following ingredients in the specified proportions and mix with a construction mixer or drill with a special nozzle for mixing solutions:
- Ordinary PVA glue in the amount of 800 g.
- The well-known solution of CMC 5% is a carboxymethylcellulose powder, which is used as wallpaper glue. It needs 2 kg. This component is diluted according to the manual that is on the package.
- Laundry soap, which is crushed or rubbed, after which a 10% solution is made from it. It should be homogeneous, like a thick glue.
- Chalk or gypsum powder in the amount of 6.5 kg.
The resulting composition is used to clad the walls using techniques for applying decorative plaster, which will be described below. The big disadvantage of this recipe is that the mixture applied to the wall has a long drying time.
Recipe 2... Another simple recipe for decorative plaster for interior work is based on the use of ordinary sand. They take 3 parts of river washed and sieved sand, 3 parts of gypsum with mineral additives (satengips) and 1 part with polymer additives (fugenfüller), which will ensure the moisture resistance and strength of the resulting mixture. All components are mixed dry and only then dissolved with water and the final batch is made.
Recipe 3... To simulate a textured finish, you can make a mixture of primer and satengypsum. The primer should be water-based with a synthetic polymer that does not form a moisture barrier. First, the primer is diluted by half its volume with water, and then dry satengips is added to it. This is done until a viscous pasty mass is formed. It should stand for a while, and then be re-stirred to remove air.
Recipe 4... If you want to decorate the walls in a wet room, then you can make decorative plaster with your own hands from tile glue. Videos of this process are often found on the net. The glue is prepared according to the recipe that is on its packaging. Then they simply apply it to the walls and draw any drawing. Using a wet brush, the texture can be smoothed out.
Useful advice! A similar technology can be used for facade decoration. Only in this case, the glue is replaced with an ordinary cement-sand mortar.
Recipe 5... For facades, you can prepare a mixture based on ordinary cement and river sand. Adding lime to it is allowed only in dry areas. The depth of the texture of the resulting coating depends on the fraction of sand. To prepare such a solution, you will need 1 part of white Portland cement M400 and 3 parts of river sand. Stirring is carried out, after which the mixture is diluted with water to a sour cream consistency. The decorative effect of such a solution is achieved by the peculiarities of its application to the surface. It is simply sprayed with a spray gun or long bristled brush by hand. The result is a coating that resembles the surface of a fur coat.
Of all the available recipes, perhaps the most famous is the recipe for making decorative plaster with your own hands from ordinary putty. They say a lot about him, so let's take a closer look at it.
DIY decorative plaster from ordinary putty
This is a very budget option for self-preparation of decorative plaster mix. The following components are taken for her:
- Ordinary putty. At the same time, the texture of the future coating depends on it itself. If you only need a relief, which is done with strokes, then it is enough to take a thin putty. For a structure in the form of moves bark beetle you need a coarse putty.
- PVA glue or deep primer will give the composition strength and elasticity. This plasticizer is taken in an amount of 2.5 to 6.5% of the volume of the resulting mixture. The higher this percentage, the stronger the coating, although it will take longer to dry.
To prepare the composition, all derivatives are thoroughly mixed to the desired creamy consistency. It is necessary to thicken the composition by adding a putty.

Do-it-yourself decorative plaster application: video of the process
Homemade plaster is applied with a spatula with a layer of 3 mm. After the top layer has set, while the pliable mixture is still textured with the help of all sorts of improvised items. Crumpled polyethylene or paper, a sponge are good for this. If you want to get a large drawing, then pre-prepared stamps are used. This is how they make a brick texture. You can use rubber rollers on which patterns are applied. With a small soft spatula, you can create relief patterns with brush strokes.
There is another way to apply decorative plaster with your own hands. The video of his application illustrates well how successful he is. The coating is done in several layers. The first layer is the background. It is without relief, just smooth. After drying, it is sanded and covered with a primer, which improves adhesion to the next layer. It is already made according to the stencil. This layer is convex and represents a pattern with volume. Most often they use plant motifs, grape bunches or geometric shapes.
Useful advice! Volumetric figures should not rise above the background layer by more than 5 mm. This precaution will prevent the layer from crumbling ahead of time.
There are a lot of videos about self-production and applying decorative plaster with your own hands. In them you can find many other techniques for obtaining a beautiful texture.
